The University of London banned student protests

The University of London banned student protests as workers and students fight for their rights

Students and workers are  getting arrested on the streets for defending their democratic right to protest and organise in the workplace.
Workers at the University of London have been fighting for their basic rights and students have joined them in solidarity. The university’s response has been to ban student protests entirely and refusing to recognise the union that represents 50% of its cleaning staff.
We must come together now and tell the University of London to respect student voices and workers’ rights.
University of London: treat your staff and students fairly, recognise the IWGB union and drop the injunction against student demonstrations!
The University of London’s outsourced cleaning staff report that getting sick can mean losing their jobs. Veronica Alcivar, a striking worker, said she was concerned about telling her employers she was pregnant stating, ‘I was afraid of losing my job’.
Worker’s are asking for three simple things, or #3cosas: sick pay, holiday pay, and pensions. In an inspiring campaign that involved workers and students, the IWGB union won concesions on sick pay and holiday for all outsourced workers. In spite of this victory the university refuses to recognise the IWGB union that represents over 50% of the workers.
The victory of the #3cosas campaign is evidence of the power we have to change things if we come together. But if we are not allowed to come together to show opposition, these victories will disappear and untenable working conditions will go by unchallenged.
University of London drop the injunction and recognise the workers union!
